1939

The German Army completes the encirclement of Warsaw, which ends with the surrender of Warsaw to the Nazis.

1941

Germany begins siege of Leningrad.

1940

Germany (Adolf Hitler), Italy (Galeazzo Ciano) and Japan (Saburo Kurusu) sign Tripartite Pact. The Tripartite Pact established the Axis Powers of World War II, agreeing that for the next ten years they would “stand by and co-operate with one another in…their prime purpose to establish and maintain a new order of things…to promote the mutual prosperity and welfare of the peoples concerned.”
